Here at St Richard's, we feel that sport is very important to our pupils, not only for their physical health and well-being, but also because of the character forming nature of individual and team sports.

29th January 2018

Well done to our KS2 dodgeball team. We played 6 games in total. We won 2, drew 2 and lost 2. Well done to all the children involved. 

15th January 2018

Today we were presented with the school games gold award at Lowton High School.

School sports representatives Elle and James collected the award from former Olympic and world champion Beth Tweddle.

Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who have helped us to achieve this. 


3rd November 2017

Congratulations to our winning KS2 Kurling team! Brooke, Ellis, Niamh, Munashe and Leah were a credit to themselves, their families and our school. They won all of their group games and then beat sacred heart 30-20 in the final. We are very proud of all of you. Well done! Winners are grinners.



6th July 2017

Tonight our Key Stage 1 football team took part in the Key Stage 1 football festival at Pennington FC. Well done to all children who played so well with big smiles on their faces.

23rd March 2017

Year 5 tri golf team who came 3rd in the Wigan schools tournament. A fantastic effort from all the children.

Today St Richard's were presented with their Bronze sports mark award. This award recognises the clubs, competitions and opportunities that are given to our children through sport. Abi and William,  our Sports Councillors,  attended the event at Lowton High school with Mrs Nulty and Mr Jameson. They received the award from Olympian,  Holly Lam-Moores, who represented Team GB at London 2012 in handball.

18th October 2016

Following their recent performances in the ATSA hockey festival, St Richard's were invited to the Wigan east finals at Byrchall High School.

  • St Richard's 0-5 Holy Family Platt Bridge
  • St Richard's 3-2 St Josephs
  • St Richard's 2-3 Sacred Heart Leigh
  • St Richard's 2-0 Nicol Mere
  • St Richard's 1-0 All Saints Golborne

With three wins and two losses we were announced as the runners up in the finals narrowly missing out on being invited to the Manchester games. 

Well done to Yasmin, Erin, Abi, Leo, Harrison and Loic.

Today Declan, Levi, Abi and Lana took part in a very interesting sports session at St Michael's led by Dr Andrew Evans. They explored how our thoughts can be controlled and how we can change them. All of these skills can be applied to different situations in school and life. They are looking forward to sharing and applying these at school. They were a credit to themselves and the school.


25th May 2016 - Tag Rugby

Presenting St Richard's tag rugby team who tonight became the runners up in the ATSA festival.
St Richards 1-0 Sacred Heart
St Richards 4-0 Holy Family
St Richards 2-0 Chowbent
St Richards 2-2 St George's Central
St Richards 2-0 St Philip's

We then lost to a very good St Michael's team in the final.

I am extremely proud of all the children for their effort and teamwork. This was particularly great in the terrible conditions.

Well done to Jack, Joe, Tyler, Chardonny, Sienna, Ruby, Harrison, Rhys and Dalton.

This afternoon St Richard's Y3/4 Futsal team competed against other schools from the area. Jacob, Ellis, Tyler, Cameron, Daniel and James represented the school extremely well.

Yesterday, 4 children took part in a Fencing taster session at St George's Central.

Leo, Ben, Dalton and Freya enjoyed learning new skills, rules and had a lot of fun. There will be a club running soon from St George's Central with limited places if children are interested.
